State salt trucks were out in force Tuesday morning to help clear the roads of the icy slush that fell during the early morning hours. County trucks were also out, clearing ice and snow from roads. More snow was forecast throughout the day Tuesday, the first full day of spring, but total accumulations were expected to be an inch or less.

Ice, snow hit area, not as bad as forecast

Spring started at 1:26 p.m. Monday but by that time the weather reports indicated Owen County could expect between 2 and 4 inches of snow, sleet and freezing rain from a strong spring storm that was affecting most of the midwest.

A day on the farm

Elementary students learn about impact of agricultural economy on community

For one day, the gym at Owen County Elementary School was turned into a farmer’s paradise.

The Center of Science and Industry (COSI), out of Columbus, Ohio, was in town on March 15 as part of COSI on Wheels, a traveling outreach program that teaches students a wide range of aspects about science and industry.


Court sells truck, makes

A smart investment has put a little extra cash in the fiscal court’s budget.
At last week’s meeting, Owen County Road Supervisor Dan Logan reported the sale of the county’s Mack truck at an auction in Montgomery, Ala.


House committee approves casino bill, then buries it

Probably won’t make it out of

Senate committee

Saying it was more important to get the issue before Kentuckians than wait for every detail to be worked out, a House committee approved a bill last week that would put the future of casinos in Kentucky on the November ballot.
