With the eighth annual Commonwealth Clean-up Week scheduled for March 19-25, Owen County is preparing to do its part.
Dan Logan, the solid waster coordinator, issued a statement encouraging all civic/church groups, charitable organizations, nonprofit groups, private businesses and other volunteers to participate in the event.
Any group that wants to participate needs to get a group participation form from the county court house or the solid waste office. located at the upper barn on East Blanton Street.
Participants are encouraged to select highly visible areas for their clean-up efforts and wear florescent clothing, for safety reasons.
Roadside garbage collected can be brought to the County Transfer Station, located on East Blanton Street. To arrange a pickup, contact Logan at 484-2427 or the fiscal court at 484-3405.
The program is not intended for personal household garbage or tires.
Any group that collects tires needs to contact their local solid waste coordinator to arrange a pickup. A fee will be charged for each tire brought to the transfer station.
Hazardous material, pesticides and paint that isn’t dry and solid will not be collected.
The county transfer station is open from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
