With the eighth annual
Commonwealth Clean-up Week scheduled for March 19-25, Owen County
is preparing to do its part.
Dan Logan, the solid waster coordinator, issued a statement encouraging
all civic/church groups, charitable organizations, nonprofit groups,
private businesses and other volunteers to participate in the
event.
Any group that wants to participate needs to get a group participation
form from the county court house or the solid waste office. located
at the upper barn on East Blanton Street.
Participants are encouraged to select highly visible areas for
their clean-up efforts and wear florescent clothing, for safety
reasons.
Roadside garbage collected can be brought to the County Transfer
Station, located on East Blanton Street. To arrange a pickup,
contact Logan at 484-2427 or the fiscal court at 484-3405.
The program is not intended for personal household garbage or
tires.
Any group that collects tires needs to contact their local solid
waste coordinator to arrange a pickup. A fee will be charged for
each tire brought to the transfer station.
Hazardous material, pesticides and paint that isn’t dry
and solid will not be collected.
The county transfer station is open from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
