City roadblocks planned
The city police department, along with other law enforcement agencies
in the area, will be conducting periodic roadblocks in the city
limits in the coming weeks. The goal is to cut down on drunk driving
and drug use in the city.
Blood drive set for Friday
There will be a blood drive at New Horizons Medical Center from
1 to 6 p.m. Friday. The Central Kentucky Bloodmobile will be at
the hospital to conduct the drive. Donors must be 17 years old,
weigh at least 110 pounds and be in general good health. Donation
takes less than an hour and can be repeated every 56 days. For

Chili supper, cake auction is Friday
Project Graduation will hold a chili supper and men’s cake
auction from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday in the OCHS cafeteria. Cakes
will be auctioned at 6:15 p.m.
DAR to meet Saturday
The John Guill chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution
will meet Saturday at the Owen County Library. Refreshments will
be served at 9:30 a.m. The meeting begins at 10 a.m. Bonnie Strassell,
a professional storyteller from Eagle Creek Studio, will present
the program on Jenny Wylie. All women ages 18 and older who are
interested in tracing their family patriots back to the Revolutionary
War are encouraged to attend.
Garden Club to meet Tuesday
The Garden Club will meet at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the extension office.
David Hull, Gallatin County Extension Agent, will talk about cottage
gardens. New members and visitors are welcome to attend. For more

Class of 1996 to hold
reunion planning meeting
The class of 1996 will be having a meeting to plan its 10-year
reunion at 6 p.m. March 15 at the Owen County Extension Office.

Parents needed for OCHS SBDM council
The Owen County High School Site-based Decision-making Council
will hold a parent member election from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. March
20 in the front lobby of the high school. Any parents who will
have a student who attends OCHS during the 2006-2007 school year
are encouraged to vote. There is one parent position open on the
council for the year. Nominations will be accepted until 3 p.m.
March 17. All nominations must be submitted to the OCHS principal,
Tim Hitzfield, in a sealed envelope.
Baseball, softball teams
to sponsor wrestling match
The Owen County High School baseball and softball teams will be
sponsoring MWA wrestling on March 21 at the new high school gym.
Doors openat 6:30 p.m. The first match begins at 7:30 p.m. Ringside
tickets are $10, floor seats $7, and bleacher seats $5. Tickets
are available from any baseball or softball player. If you have

Satterwhite Golf Shamble set for April 1
The seventh annual Charlie Satterwhite Memorial Golf Shamble will
be held April 1 at Fairway Golf Course in Wheatley. A double shotgun
start will take place at 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The cost is $55
per person and includes 18 holes of golf, cart, food and entertainment
following the tournament. A USGA handicap or average score will
be required. Proceeds from the tournament go to The Owen County
Senior Citizens activity fund and the Satterwhite Fund supporting
the Trust for LIfe Organ Donation Program. For more information,

GED test is April 20
The next GED test will be given April 20. Contact the adult learning
center at 60 Old Monterey Road to find out additional information
about the test. Those taking it must be preregistered and evaluated
prior to the test date. The center is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Tuesday and Thursday and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday. For

Second annual Community Health Day is April 22
The second annual Community Health Day, sponsored by the New Horizons
Medical Foundation will be held at the Owen County Fairgrounds
from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 22. The event will include a number
of health screenings, the opportunity to give blood, safety information,
door prizes and more. Watch The News-Herald in the coming weeks
