Election
signs removed from road sides
Election signs have popped
up all over the county, but in last week or so, some of them may
have disappeared.
That’s because of a state law that no advertising device,
including campaign signs, can be placed in the right-of-way. The
law includes signs or stickers attached to structures that are
already installed on state right-of-way.
According to a letter from Marc D. Williams, commissioners of
Highways for the state Transportation Cabinet, the signs “can
distract drivers, obstruct sight distance, reduce the recovery
zone for drivers who run off the road, negatively impact roadside
aesthetics and interfere with mower and litter removal.”
The Transportation Department began removing signs on March 1.
Any sign that has been removed will be retained for a short time
period at the local highway district garage and can be picked
up with proper identification.
