William R. True, 71,
husband of Joyce Stivers True, of Poplar Grove, died Feb. 13,
2006.
He was the son of the late W. H. and Virginia Yancey True. He
was a graduate of the University of Kentucky and taught vocational
agriculture at Owen County High School for 27 years.
During his teaching career, he was active in the Owen County Education
Association and KEA. Since his retirement he has been active in
the Owen County Retired Teachers’ Association and served
as president of that organization for several years.
He was a member of Poplar Grove Baptist Church where he taught
Sunday school for 45 years and served as a deacon for 41 years.
He was a veteran and served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956.
He was named Owen Countian of the year in 2004, received the Distinguished
Alumni award from the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture
in 1999, and was on the board of directors of Peoples Bank in
Owenton.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law,
James and Susan True of Evansville, Ind., and William G. and Vicky
True of Covington; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Jim
Jansen of Poplar Grove, and Sheila and Pete Schierloh of Florence;
grandchildren Nick Miller, Patrick Jansen, Logan and Laura Beth
True, Brian True, and Connor and Kelli Schierloh; one step-granddaughter,
Hannah Ditzer; two brothers and their wives, Glen and Shirley
True and Bruce and Patricia True, all of Poplar Grove; and several
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Feb. 16, 2006, at McDonald & New
Funeral Homes with Bros. Adam Polk and Jesse Bourne officiating.
Burial was in Poplar Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers were Chris True,
John True, Billy Hearne, Lloyd Yancey, Harry Brock and Brian Forsee.

Bruce, 78
Juanita Colson Bruce,
78, of Corinth died Feb. 17, 2006, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
She was a homemaker, a former employee of Freeway Restaurant in
Corinth and a member of Canby Tabernacle Church.
She is survived by her husband, Austin “Buck” Bruce;
four daughters, Beverly Coleman of Corinth, Debbie Primeau of
Corinth, Donna Conyers of Fayetteville, Ark., and Lisa York of
Corinth; a son, David Bruce of Owenton; five sisters, Alverta
Gifford of Williamstown, Betty Ellis of Corinth, Frances Simpson
of Williamstown, Martha Bachman of Williamstown and Rita Colson
of Corinth; four brothers, Amos Colson of Williamstown, Thomas
J. “Bub” Colson of Georgia, Jackie Colson of Corinth
and Harold Gene “Peck” Colson of Corinth; 12 grandchildren;
and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister,
Dola Green, and a brother, Winford Colson.
Funeral services were held Feb. 21 at Antioch Church of Christ
in Corinth with the Rev. Charles Barrineau officiating. Burial
was in Keefer Cemetery, Corinth. Pallbearers were David V. Bruce
II, Samuel Miller, Daniel Miller, Jeremy L. Perkins, Austin Conyers,
Matthew Conyers, Adam York and Pat Conrad.

Barber, 79
Mildred Morris Barber,
79, of Georgetown, died Feb. 13, 2006, at the Hospice Care Center.
A native of Georgetown, she was the daughter of the late Fred
Thomas and Mary True Morris, a homemaker and a member of First
Christian Church.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Patti and Ricky
Merriman of Georgetown and Janis and Don Slaughter of Owenton;
four grandchildren, Andrea Porter, Michael Slaughter, Nicole Alcorn
and Michelle Slaughter; five great-grandchildren, Madisen Carol
and Lauren Mae Elizabeth Porter, Haley Jestean, Tara Rayne and
Kylie Danielle Slaughter; and two sisters, Christine Sargent and
Iona Morrison.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett Darrell Barber;
a sister, Louise Morris Beam; and three brothers, Thomas, William
and Ernest Morris.
Funeral services were held Feb. 17 at Johnson’s Funeral
Home in Georgetown with the Rev. David Wotier officiating. Burial
was in Georgetown Cemetery. Pallbearers were Dennis, Fred and
Mike Morris, Scotty and David Morrison, Michael Slaughter, Mike
Wilson and Rusty Sowers. Honorary bearers were Finley Morrison
and Mike Cook.

Munson, 86
James T. Munson, 86,
a resident of the Otterbein Retirement Community in Lebanon, Ohio,
died Feb. 17, 2006. He was born in Owen County, the son of Tilden
Munson and Birdie Smith Munson. He was a retired employee of General
Electric and a member of the Linwood Lodge #567 F&AM and Scottish
Rite.
He is survived by his wife, May Fields Munson; a brother, Chester
Munson; sisters Marjorie Haller and Evelyn Kingkade; and 18 nieces
and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Hammond,
and half-brothers Guy and Cecil Hammond.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Feb. 22 at the Otterbein Retirement
Community Chapel, Hwy. 741, Lebanon, Ohio. The funeral and Masonic
services are at 11 a.m.

Nancy Mae Bibb, 84,
died Feb. 15, 2006, at Harborside Healthcare in Owenton. She was
born in Woodford County, the daughter of the late Lawrence and
Maggie Dempsey Wilhoite. She was married on Jan. 7, 1939, to the
late Robert Kayton Bibb. She was retired from the former Sprague-Textron
Plant in Owenton and was a member of Jehovah’s Witness Church.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Sherrill
Bibb of Indianapolis; a daughter and son-in-law, Lynda and Don
Towles of Owenton; a brother, Walter “Doc” Wilhoite
of Frankfort; a sister, Mayme Smith of Owenton; four grandchildren;
and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Feb. 18 at McDonald & New Funeral
Homes. Pallbearers were Brian, Brad and Brandon Towles, Kris Bibb,
and Drew and Mitch Martin.

Ruby Noel Dempsey, 82,
of Owenton, died Feb. 13, 2006, at Harborside Healthcare Center
in Owenton.
Born May 22, 1923, in Owen County, she was the daughter of the
late John and Rena Luther Noel. She was a homemaker and farmer
as well as a member of Pleasant Home Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Billy and Steve Dempsey of Owenton;
six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded
in death by her husband, Lon D. “Dick” Dempsey.
Funeral services were held Feb. 17 at McDonald & New Funeral
Homes with the Revs. David Wotier and Dale Adkins officiating.
Burial was in Owenton I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Brumley, 73
Shade Brumley, 73, of
New Columbus, died Feb. 13, 2006, at his residence. He was a retired
maintenance employee for the Cincinnati Zoo. He was also an avid
coon hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Brumley; three daughters,
Betty Gregory of Laurel County, Donna Wilson of Owenton and Henrietta
House of Owen County; six sons, Charles Brumley, Estill Brumley,
James Brumley, Thomas Brumley and Billy Brumley of New Columbus,
and Gary Brumley of Grant County; two sisters, Nancy Penn and
Edna Barber of Stamping Ground; 23 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Debbie Sue Brumley.
Funeral services were held Feb. 16 at McDaniel Funeral Home in
Corinth. Burial followed in Caney Fork Cemetery.

Kathryn B. “Mama
Kathryn” Ogburn, 82, of Jonesville, died Feb. 19, 2006,
at New Horizons Medical Center. Born to the late Noah and Erma
Chandler Meadows on March 18, 1923, in Carrollton, she was a homemaker,
farmer and member of Jonesville United Methodist Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Joan Ewing of Florence, Betty
Holder of Sanders and Valerie Kenner of Jonesville; two brothers,
Raymond Meadows of Sanders and Lawrence Meadows of Cincinnati;
three sisters, Martha Stewart of Owenton, Hilda Brown of Bedford
and Geneva Carrico of Carrollton; four grandchildren, Lisa, Mike,
Todd and Missy; and five great-grandchildren, Chad, Dustyn, Andy,
Ondrea and Ashton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford
Ogburn, and her son, Dennis Ogburn.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Feb. 22 at McDonald &
New Funeral Homes, Main Street, with Bro. Gene Hill officiating.
Burial will be in Carrollton Cemetery.
