Soccer registration is Saturday
Owen County Youth Soccer registration will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Owen County Library for ages 4 and up. The fee is $35. A discount applies for each additional child from the same family. Please bring a copy of birth certificates for new players. Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Walk planned
There will be a Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Walk from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Several activities are planned for this day. There will be heart face painting and an inflatable bouncer for the kids. Door prizes, a silent auction, food for sale, heart crafts for sale, entertainment from local gospel groups, informational booths on CHDs and a new support group through Mended Little Hearts is also being planned. All proceeds will benefit congenital heart defect research that is being done at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Come and show your support for CHD research by walking and joining in on the fun. There will be a special recognition walk for adults/children that are present with a congenital heart defect. A display is also going to be set up with pictures of adults/children with a CHD (whether they are a survivor or an angel). If you are interested in having your picture or a picture of your child displayed, or if you are going to be present on the 25th and have a CHD or a child with a CHD, please contact Katie Columbia at 463-2450. You can also e-mail pictures along with name, birth date, and medical diagnosis to rkaecolumbia@earthlink.net. House of Reptiles to visit the library
The House of Reptiles will bring snakes and other reptiles to the Owen County Public Library at 6:30 p.m. Monday for the Free Family Fun Night. The program is free and open to all ages. For more information, call 484-3450 or visit the library Web site at www.owencountylibrary.org.
Free basic finance class offered
Peoples Bank and the Owen County 21st Century Community Learning Center will offer a free basic finance class from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Owen County Elementary School. During the class, participants will receive basic tips and information that can save money and improve finances. Call 484-4265 to RSVP.
Project Graduation to meet March 1
The next meeting of Project Graduation is 6 p.m. March 1 at the Smith House.
Weather Spotters class planned
A Weather Spotters class will be held at 7 p.m. March 1 at the Owenton and Owen County Volunteer Fire House. The training will last about two hours. Reservations are not necessary.
Blood drive set for March 10
There will be a blood drive at New Horizons Medical Center from 1 to 6 p.m. March 10. The Central Kentucky Bloodmobile will be at the hospital to conduct the drive. Donors must be 17 years old, weight at least 110 pounds and be in general good health. Donation takes less than an hour and can be repeated every 56 days. Satterwhite Golf Shamble set for April 1
The seventh annual Charlie Satterwhite Memorial Golf Shamble will be held April 1 at Fairway Golf Course in Wheatley. A double shotgun start will take place at 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The cost is $55 per person and includes 18 holes of golf, cart, food and entertainment following the tournament. A USGA handicap or average score will be required. Proceeds from the tournament go to The Owen County Senior Citizens activity fund and the Satterwhite Fund supporting the Trust for LIfe Organ Donation Program.
