Farmers’ market, info line
products of leadership program

What do the Owen County Farmers’ Market and a new information line for the community have in common?
They are both products of the Owen County Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership program.
The farmers’ market was the project selected by the Leadership Owen County Class of 2002. The project began in July 2003. The first summer it generated approximately $20,000 in the community.
During its second season, however, vendors didn’t fare as well and in 2005, organizers moved it to the parking lot in front of New Horizons Medical Center.
Plans are being discussed for the market for the 2006 season with the start day tentatively set for May.
The class of 2004 took a different route for its project.
The class is developing an information line for Owen County. Once in place, the line will offer area residents one number to call to get information about goings-on in Owen County. Emergency information will also be available.
That project is still in the planning stages, with a roll out scheduled for later this year.
