Learning
about Government

— Photo submitted
Students in Michelle Alcorn’s fifth-grade class held a mock
council meeting about banning smoking in public places. Students
presented their opinions for both sides of the issue. Owenton
City Council member Doris Riley listened to the arguments and
spoke with students about the importance of being involved in
their local government. She told them that residents should go
to meetings, send letters, and make phone calls so elected government
officials know what their constituents want.
