Members of the Owenton/Owen County Volunteer Fire Department helped
clean out the basement of the Owen County Historical Society Museum
Jan. 28. Three truckloads of old rusted metal cabinets, broken
plumbing fixtures and other trash items were taken to the transfer
station. “If it hadn’t been for their help, I don’t
know how we would have ever done it,” said Jeannie Williams,
president of the historical society.

Above, fire fighters carry trash to the trucks for disposal. Right,
Jeff Smith helped move boxes from the attic to the first floor.
Those who contributed their time were Rick Morgan, James Dixon,
David Lilly, Mike Fitzgerald, David Estes, Don McDonald, Charles
McDonald, Larry Karsner, Lydia Smoot, Gary Smoot, Taylor Smoot,
Dustin Clark, Jeff Smith and Brian Riddle. The next meeting of
the historical society will be at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 16 at the Owen
County Public Library. For more information about the society
or to become a member, contact Williams at 484-3925. Annual memberships
are $10 and lifetime memberships are $100.
