Functional Spanish class to be offered
The Adult Learning Center is planning to offer a class in Functional Spanish. The course will be aimed at teaching participants a basic use of the Spanish language. Whether you are a farmer, business owner, student, or just want more flexibility in communication, this class is for you. If you are interested in learning Spanish basics please call the Adult Learning Center at 484-0405. Leave a message with your name, phone number and you will be contacted with details.
Classes available in the Cooper Clayton Method to Stop Smoking
The Cooper/Clayton Method to Stop Smoking can help smokers overcome their addiction for good. For more information about a local class, contact April Harris of the Three Rivers District Health Department at 484-3412.
CHD support group being formed
If you are a parent of a child with a Congenital Heart Defect, live in the Northern Kentucky Area, and would like to join a support group, please contact Katie Columbia at (502) 463-2450 or e-mail her at rkaecolumbia@earthlink.net. Plans are being made to get a support group up and running in this area.
Project Graduation meeting is today
The next Project Graduation meeting will be held at 6 p.m. today at the Smith House. The group is also selling bricks from the old high school. They are available for $5 each and can be personalized for $1. Only 200 of the bricks are left. Call 484-2636 to get yours today.
Ballot position drawing is Thursday
The public drawing for ballot position will be at 2 p.m.Thursday in the Owen County Clerk’s Office. Candidates should make plans to attend the drawing or have someone represent them. Any candidate not able to be present or to send a stand-in should notify the clerk’s office at 484-2213.
Quilters’ class to meet
The Owen County Quilters’ Class will meet 7 p.m. Monday We will be making a Hearts in Harmony sweatshirt. Contact the extension office at 484-5703 for a picture of the project as well as a supply list needed for this class.
Gratz Historical Association to meet
The Gratz Historical Association will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at Norma Jean’s Restaurant & Store in Gratz. The group’s regular meeting time will be the first Monday of each month.
Basic computer class starts Tuesday
The Adult Learning Center will be offering a Basic Computer Class beginning Tuesday. The class is designed for people who know how to use a mouse. You will learn how to navigate through Windows XP, search for documents, create folders and move documents. In addition you will get an overview of Microsoft Word - word processing, how to change fonts, use Word Art, create a letter, change formatting, save to a file, etc. The course will last for six weeks at a cost of $25. Space is limited and will be filled on a first come basis. To sign up for the class contact the Adult Learning Center at 484-0405 or come by the offices at 60 Old Monterey Road in Owenton.
GED testing is Feb. 9
There will be a GED testing Feb. 9. For more information, contact the Owen County Adult Learning Center at 484-0405 or visit the center at 60 Old Monterey Road.
Free tax tips to be offered
The Owen County Community Learning Center and Parent Information Resource Center will host a Free Tax Tips Night from 6 to 7 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Owen County Elementary School. Call 484-4265 to reserve your spot.
Weather Spotters class planned
A Weather Spotters class will be held at 7 p.m. March 1 at the Owenton and Owen County Volunteer Fire House. The training will last about two hours. Reservations are not necessary.
Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Walk planned
There will be a Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Walk on Saturday, February 25th, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Several activities are planned for this day. There will be heart face painting and an inflatable bouncer for the kids. Door prizes, a silent auction, food for sale, heart crafts for sale, entertainment from local gospel groups, informational booths on CHDs and a new support group through Mended Little Hearts is also being planned. All proceeds will benefit congenital heart defect research that is being done at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Come and show your support for CHD research by walking and joining in on the fun. There will be a special recognition walk for adults/children that are present with a congenital heart defect. A display is also going to be set up with pictures of adults/children with a CHD (whether they are a survivor or an angel). If you are interested in having your picture or a picture of your child displayed, or if you are going to be present on the 25th and have a CHD or a child with a CHD, please contact Katie Columbia at 463-2450. You can also e-mail pictures along with name, birth date, and medical diagnosis to rkaecolumbia@earthlink.net.
