Williams, 84
George Lee Williams, 84, died Dec. 23, 2005, at Jewish Hospital
in Cincinnati. He was the son of the late Clarence and Cora Mae
Smith Williams, was a retired farmer and a member of Owenton Second
Baptist Church.
He is survived by a niece, Robin White of Madisonville, Ohio;
a great-niece, Carla Anderson-Mitchell of Richmond; and a great-nephew,
Tyrone Anderson of Florence.
Memorial services were held Jan. 7, 2006, at Owenton Second Baptist
Church. Cremation was chosen. Honorary pallbearers were Eugene
Harris, Gayle Harris, Charlie Sanders and Clarence “Moe”
Ware.

Larry Stewart, 59
Larry Edward Stewart, 59, of Georgetown died Dec. 11, 2005 at
his home. A native of Owen County, he was the son of Sam and Georgia
Ruth Stewart. He was a retired employee of Nally & Gibson
and attended Trinity Assembly of God Church.
Including his parents, survivors are four children, Melanie Dawn
Robey, Darren Edward Graves, Richard Wayne Kidwell and Carmen
Michelle Stuard; a granddaughter; two sisters, Dianne Lynn Stewart
and Claudia Gail Stewart; nieces and nephews Jennifer Totten,
Joanna Alexander, Jeffrey Stone and Christopher Brooks; and a
loyal friend, Cathy Gibson. He was preceded in death by a brother,
Kevin Douglas Stewart.
Funeral services were officiated by Pastor Ronald Ferrell. Burial
was in Georgetown Cemetery. Casket bearers were Jeffrey Stone,
Christopher Brooks, Rick Kidwell, Rick Stewart, Rick Totten and
Robert Alexander. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity
Assembly of God Church.
Mary Davis, 79
Mary Ida Clifton Davis, 79, died Jan. 6, 2006, at Harborside Healthcare
Center. She was born April 14, 1926, in Henry County to the late
Sollie Clifton Sr. and Edith Popp Clifton.
She is survived by a son, Wayne Davis of Owenton; three daughters,
Susan Gray of Shelbyville, Tenn., Pam Criswell and Marsha Kemper,
both of Owenton; three brothers, Gene Clifton, John Clifton and
Sollie Clifton, all of Owenton; a sister, Elvira Miller of Shipshewana,
Ind.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by her husband, Elwood Davis; a son, Lonnie
Davis; a sister, Martha Clifton; and a brother, Dave Clifton.
Funeral services were held Jan. 9 at McDonald & New Funeral
Homes with Bros. Jimmy Gray, Joe Miller and Jesse Bourne officiating.
Burial was in Owenton I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

William Wilson, 80
William Robert Wilson, 80, died Jan. 5, 2006, at the Veteran’s
Administration Medical Center in Lexington.
Born May 12, 1925, in Cincinnati to the late James Monroe and
Mabel Edith McCoy Wilson, he was a retired butcher, having worked
for Kroger and Meiser Market, and a World War II Marine veteran.
He is survived by four sons, Kenneth Robert Horne of Tallahassee,
Fla., William R. Wilson of Owenton, Louis Samuel Wilson of Eaton,
Ohio, and Charles Steven Wilson of Cincinnati; three daughters,
Geraldine Rainey of Owenton, Deborah Roy of Dry Ridge and Pamela
J. Reiser of Morehead; 23 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ora Wright Wilson.
Funeral services were held Jan. 10 at the McDonald & New Funeral
Homes with Bro. David Wotier officiating. Burial was in Baltimore
Pike Cemetery.

Virginia Moody, 97
Virginia Lucille Jones Moody, 97, passed away Jan. 8, 2006, at
the Harborside Healthcare Center in Owenton. Born Nov. 28, 1908,
in Adair County, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Gladys
Spangler Jones. She was a former teacher, having taught for Little
Hope and Bromley Schools. She graduated from New Liberty School
in 1926 and from Martha Washington College in Abingdon, Va., in
1928. She was a member of New Liberty Baptist Church since 1922,
having served in many capacities in her 84 years as a member,
including teaching for more than 45 years. She was an active member
of the W.M.U. and a member of the Rebekah’s Lodge since
1937.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Samuel Moody.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Jan. 11 at McDonald &
New Funeral Homes with Bros. David Jicka, Emory Eldridge and Jesse
Bourne officiating. Burial will be in Owenton I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Burlita Best, 38
Burlita Jones Wright Best, 38, of Lawrenceburg, died Jan. 3, 2006,
from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Franklin
County. Born July 21, 1967, in Owen County to Robert “Bobby”
L. and Jean Hammond Jones of Lawrenceburg, she was executive secretary
for the Department of Inspector General of Transportation. She
was a member of Peaks Mill Baptist Church and attended Hope Community
Church in Lawrenceburg. She was a 1985 graduate of Owen County
High School and a former cheerleader coach for the ACYC Cheerleaders.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Tom
Best; a daughter, Lajeana Suzanne Wright, of Lawrenceburg; a step-son,
Jason Best of Chicago; two brothers, Steven L. Jones and his wife,
Amy, of Crestwood and Creyton R. Jones of Frankfort; a mother-in-law,
Betty Hyatt Trent of Lawrenceburg; and five nephews, Steven, Jonathan,
Robert, Anthony and Cameron Jones. She was preceded in death by
her grandparents, Buck and Dorothy Jones and Claude and Leona
Hammond.
Funeral services were Jan. 7 at Gash Memorial Chapel in Lawrenceburg
with Bro. Jeff Eaton officiating. Burial was in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Roger Breeden, Earl Breeden, Greg Hammond,
Tim Hammond, Jimmy Alexander and Brian Polly. Honorary bearers
were Tony Best, Wayne Best, Bobby Best, Bill Allen, Steve Hunt,
David Ray and her co-workers.
