From
vision & involvement to planning & zoning
Residents
at meeting discuss election process, planning and zoning in
community
Where two or three are gathered to talk about elections, the
talk quickly turns to planning and zoning.
A meeting Dec. 5 convened to offer encouragement to those
who might be considering a run for office in 2006 drew about
30 people. But while the conversation initially focused on
finding community-oriented candidates for the nearly 50 seats
up for election, it quickly became a discussion about whether
the community needs or doesn’t a plan for managing the
anticipated growth in the community.

“A Code Yellow means taking three minutes or more to
get the fire truck out the door. Since 911 started in the
1980s, we’ve never once had a Code Yellow. Not many
people can say that.”
Greg Davis, chief of the New Liberty Volunteer Fire Department
is proud of his team. And his father, Billy Davis, who is
a member of that team, beams proudly at Greg as he talks about
his department’s accomplishments despite a change that
affects how quickly volunteers can get to the firehouse.
Next
phase of water project starting
By
the time the next phase of water projects are completed in
Owen County, about 80 percent of all households in the community
will have water service.
“I
am pleased to report that once the Phase III projects are
constructed that, based on the numbers provided by Kentucky
American Water and Carroll County Water, we will have either
service to or service available to 80 percent of the households
in Owen County,” said Owen County Judge-Executive Billy
O’Banion. “That is up from a little less than
60 percent in 1999.”
O’Banion announced late last month that 11 roads are
included in Phase III of the project and an additional five
are included in Phase IV, which is in the planning stages.

In August a group of Owen County residents were formed into
the Growth Management Committee to help prepare the county
for future growth.
Those residents toured Owen County to see how it has grown
and to discuss ways to handle future growth.

New
dog warden takes the reign

A love for dogs led Deanna Wolfe to a new job.
Wolfe, who will be assisted by her husband Elden, was recently
named Owen County’s new dog warden.
“We have a bunch of dogs of our own, so when I found
out they were trying to find someone, I thought it was right
up my alley,” said Wolfe. “It’s something
I really enjoy. I love dogs.”
Getting
some sun when it's cloudy outside
Local tanning beds offer alternative to winter doldrums
It’s cold and getting colder, the days are shorter and
the sun keeps hiding behind gray skies.
And even when the sun is shining, it’s not that bright.
At least not bright enough to keep that summer skin from fading
to winter white.
