Holiday Closings
• All county offices will be closed Dec. 23 and Dec. 26 for the Christmas holiday and Dec. 31 for the New Year’s holiday.
• The transfer station will hold its monthly free day on Dec. 17. The transfer station will be closed Dec. 23, Dec. 24 and Dec. 31.
• The News-Herald will be closed Dec. 23 after noon and Dec. 26 for the Christmas holiday. The office will also be closed Jan. 2 for the New Year’s holiday. All advertising and copy for the Dec. 28 edition must be submitted by 5 p.m. Dec. 22. All advertising copy for the Jan. 4 edition must be submitted by noon Dec. 30.

Community Events
Project Graduation meeting is today
There will be a Project Graduation meeting today at the Smith House. In order for parents to attend Project Graduation with their children, they must participate in at least two fundraisers.
Sheriff’s office to be closed for training
The tax department at the sheriff’s office will be closed from noon Thursday until Monday morning. The office will reopen Monday at its regular time.
Health board to meet Friday
The Three Rivers District Board of Health will meet at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Owen County Extension Office, 357 Ellis Road, Owenton.
City hall to be closed Friday
City hall will be closed Friday for staff training.
Bethany Christmas party is Saturday
A Christmas party for friends of Bethany School will be held at noon Saturday at the lodge at General Butler State Park in Carrollton. Everyone is invited to attend. For more information, contact Jim Lawrence at (859) 485-4856.
Group forming Community Historical Society
Residents of Perry Park, Moxley, Brown’s Bottom, Monterey, Gratz and Pleasant Home are invited to attend a public meeting concerning the founding of a community historical society. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Norma Jeann’s Country Diner & Grocery in Gratz. After a period of open discussion, officers and board members will be elected and by-laws will be adopted.
Library to present ‘Nutcracker’
The Owen County Public Library will present “The Nutcracker” at 6:30 p.m. Monday. The Heiken Puppets will perform the classic Christmas offering.
Project Graduation to hold holiday bazaar
Project Graduation will be holding a holiday bazaar Tuesday in the cafeteria during the boy’s triple-header basketball games against Gallatin County. Anyone interested in having a booth should contact Laurie or Sandy at 484-2636.
Retired teachers’ Christmas dinner is Tuesday
The annual Christmas dinner of the Owen County Retired Teachers will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith House. To make reservations, call Mary Wyatt (484-5182), Elizabeth Prewitt, (463-2500) or Vonda Howard (484-5229) by Sunday. The cost is $14.
Clerk’s office to be closed for training
The Owen County Clerk’s office will be closed Dec. 13. The staff will be attending a training session.
