— Photos by TIM MANDELL
Owen County celebrated the arrival of the Christmas season Sunday with the annual parade, open houses and other celebration activities downtown. Owen looks at water issues

As Fayette County prepares to buy Kentucky American

Should the city of Lexington be successful in purchasing Kentucky American Water, Owen County would be interested in purchasing the portion of the company currently located here.

But Owen County probably couldn’t buy back the water lines that Kentucky American owns here. During the last several years, the Lexington-based water company has purchased the Tri-Village Water District, the Elk Lake Water District, and most recently, the Owenton Water District.

Prepared for any emergency

Emergency management plans for every contingency

The National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) weather channel picture changes. Weather radio beeps. Telephones ring. The Owenton Emergency Management inner office is a study in organized banks of information: computers, files, equipment and two men.

One of the county’s two ambulances is taking a patient outside the county. Emergency Management must provide another person for the other ambulance to run.

Water to be shut off Saturday

Water will be shut off for a short time Saturday along Hwy. 22 east of the schools. The shutdown is required in order to relocate some water lines and a hydrant in that area. The shutdown will begin at 9 a.m. and will last for approximately three to four hours.

Angels needed

More than 2,000 years ago, wise men gave gifts to a babe born in a manger, gifts that would be used to finance a journey to Egypt that would save his life.

During the 2005 Christmas season, local residents are invited to give gifts to the youngest members of this community, gifts that will make a difference in their lives.
